Yonkers Nephrology was started in 1991 as a solo practice by Dr Ukponmwan after completing Nephrology and Hypertension training at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

A few years later the practice became incorporated as Yonkers Nephrology, P.C in the State of New York.

Dr Ukponmwan graduated from the College of Medical Sciences, University of Benin, Nigeria in 1979

He obtained the Master of Public Health degree in 1983 and Master of Science degree in Population Science in 1984 from the prestigious Harvard School of Public Health, Boston.

Dr Ukponmwan completed his internship and residency program in Internal Medicine at Harlem Hospital Center which is a major teaching hospital affiliate of Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.
Dr Ukponmwan has admitting privileges at Montefiore Medical Center, Bronx, Saint Joseph's Medical Center, Yonkers, Saint John's Riverside Hospital, Yonker and Montefiore –Mount Vernon Hospital.

He is the Medical Director of Davita - Yonkers Dialysis Center and Westchester Home Center of Excellence.

Dr Ukponmwan is active in the community and for many years was the proud sponsor of Bryn Mawr Boys and Girls Club, Yonkers.

Dr Ukponmwan is a member of many professional organizations including AMA, ACP, RPA and ESMA.

He is Board certified in Nephrology and Hypertension and is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians.

Responsibilities include planning, organizing, conducting and directing the professional ESRD services. This also includes adequate training of nurses and technicians. I serve as chairperson of the CQI Committee.

Medical Director: Medical Director in charge of this 24 station dialysis center with the capacity of serving over 150 patients.
